We don’t have a healthcare industry in North America – we have an illness care industry, instead . We’re being hammered by Government, the media and a medical industry that only seems to know one answer to any problem – more drugs .
You can’t mention “wellness” without people rolling their eyes . That’s a shame because our greatest natural asset for fighting sickness is our own immune system. A health philosophy centered on wellness would help us support and strengthen that tool .
Aging, stress and our typically lousy diets all detract from the effectiveness of our immune systems. Aging is particularly destructive and sadly , unavoidable . Our cellular and antibody functions get sluggish and chronic inflammation which is associated with many problems of aging takes hold of us . A chronic inflammatory problem ( like heart disease & rheumatoid arthritis) is also associated with free radicals and cellular degradation . This won’t surprise anyone who is familiar with the benefits of antioxidants.
Strengthening our immune system by boosting our antioxidant levels to help clean up the free radicals damaging our cells is a sensible plan . We can do this through our diet and supplementation of some specific precursors like MAX GXL to help manufacture Glutathione, which is probably the single most important defense system against the destructive effects of free radicals . We also need to deal with our stress levels and please get up , get some exercise and put the jumbo burger down !
Besides glutathione, there are other antioxidants to boost your immune system . They include Vitamins E and C along with the B-vitamins, which are available as antioxidant supplements. Vitamin A is anothe rone and CoQ10 is another well known antioxidant and sadly- we don’t make so much as we age . Minerals that are also importantfor our immune system include copper, selenium and zinc . The Omega-3 fatty acids found in flax seed and fish oils have been found to help keep the cellular immune system turned on .
Probiotics supplements are particularly important for the health of our intestinal immune system since our whole gastro-intestinal tract depends on living beneficial bacteria (Microflora). Among other things , Lactobacillus increases the activity of T- cells. Grape Seed Extract – Resveratrol – is yet another valuable antioxidant with powerful immune supporting qualities and can also increase the activity of our cellular glutathione.
If we would take more care of our health , we could be better off than we are now. You can build up and improve your natural immunity with a better diet and some exercise and the intelligent use of supplements and precursors. Educate yourself about the options available to an idea that healthcare is supposed to be about the treatment of illness .
This year, I plan to greet the next flu season with my immune system running on all cylinders and I don’t want your flu shots .
