As buyakisa already answered you. The rules are quite simple. If you are fasting nothing is allowed to go inside your body from sun rise to sun set. This is the decision the person needs to make and he/she will need to stick to it. For your other questions. The prophet Muhammed P.B.U.H as clearly said to haste to wards breaking fast and to delay starting fast. He also said that you eat until you can make distinction between a black thread and a white one.
I agree with the rabbi from this video – here in America, people, of other cultures and religions, can come together, talk, and live as people rather then as animals. I think if more people here in America learned about Islam and know what’s really about, people would be less hostile towards Muslims.

You cannot chew gum. you still fast during the ecplise, its not a matter of it being dark ot light, its about timing (i.e. time of sunrise to time of sunset). Islam is a magnificent religion, reflecting excellent morals and a true way of life. thats why thousands of people are constantly converting to Islam every day!! if you search deep into this true religion, you will realise it has all the answers to every aspect of life.. thats what makes it a perfect faith!!
