How to Deadlift the Proper Way – Without Wrecking Your Back

Setup with your feet shoulder width or slightly wider than shoulder width apart 2. Toes can be straight ahead or turned outward 3. Shins should be approximately 4-6″ AWAY from the bar 4. Grab the bar with a double overhand grip (until the weight gets too heavy) 5. Legs will be straight 6. Take a big breath and force your abdominals outward and hold 7. Drop your hips as your knees shift forward toward the bar 8. Create tension in your upper back and lats by squeezing your armpits and pulling your arms downward 9. Drive the floor away, keeping the bar against your body all the way to lockout 10. Once bar gets to your knees finish the lockout with a powerful glute contraction, finish in a straight line 11. Move hips backward, keeping the glutes and hamstrings on tension 12. The bar will move downward and once the bar reaches the knees, drop straight downward back to the floor 13.     i dont have a power lifting belt, so i use a weighlifting belt, do i need to use one if im DL in the 6-12 range or only in the 1-3 range or if im trying for a PR that im unsure of, basically, when do i need to use a weightlifting belt? i mostly BB but also throw in some PL in my compound exercises for strenghth as well as hypertrophy.

    @vuBoomerang RDL means Roman DeadLift. You can look up videos on that. I agree too the hood was in the way and he should have been looking forward (not down) at the completion of the lift. Great video otherwise.

    I’ve been working out for a few months now, mostly just sticking to the more basic muscle groups, but I’ve decided I should start doing dead lifts now. So this definitely helps.

    Good thing I haven’t asked any of the guys at the gym who dead lift, they all hyper extend (which despite me not knowing how to do them properly, I could tell it was wrong so didn’t want to start the exercise based on their instruction).

    @kruddy88 you should try to get a good arch in your back. thats puts your back in a safe position to deadlift. you don’t want to drop your hips too low, just enough to be able to get an effective arch. as you come up, you want to keep the arch because that will allow you to pull your hips into a standing upright lockout. hope this helps.

    Mainstream media is indeed suppressing stories like this. They are suppressed because they are unsubstantiated. Journalists, unlike bloggers, are actually encouraged to investigate their stories, and get “strong evidence”, if not proof to back up their claims.

    If a journalist had a story like this suppressed – wouldn't you think the journalist would just blog the story, or publish it elsewhere?
