Glucosamine is a natural substance made from glucose (sugars) and glutamine (amino acids) . A persons body will use glucosamine to assist regenerate cartilage and body tissues . Your body will naturally produce more glucosamine when you are younger. The natural process of producing glucosamine slows as we age, which could lead to possible muscle or joint problems like arthritis.
The reality that our bodies will lose glucosamine as we get up there in years, has lead to the development of glucosamine as a supplement in pill and liquid vitamin forms. Glucosamine supplements often contain a substance found naturally in our cartilage called chondroitin. Chondroitin is found naturally in the milk of cow’s and adds sulfur to the supplement.
When a person is hurting from osteoarthritis, particularly of the knees glucosamine supplements are quite often prescribed . Glucosamine is prescribed to help fill again the natural glucosamine that you’re body no longer develops . Glucosamine is believed to help mend damaged cartilage that induces the osteoarthritis.
Studies have shown that glucosamine can help ease the discomfort in you’re knees. Glucosamine will also help reduce the advancement of osteoarthritis. A recent study used glucosamine combined with hydrochloride found the results to be less then effective. The same research also established that glucosamine mixed with chondroitin, did little to ease pain in the knees. The individuals, who took part in the study, had better pain reduction using pure glucosamine. That’s not to say that chondrotin will not help you in other ways.
One thousand five hundred mg per day is the recommended dosage for glucosamine to help handle osteoarthritis. It makes sense to try glucosamine for a three month flow, if you don’t notice any improvement, stop using it. Obviously if there is improvement then continue to use the supplement.
Short term use of glucosamine is more often than not accepted by the body very nicely . Mild side effects can develop in individuals, with long term use. Some people have been known to have an increase in blood sugar levels if they are diabetics Type I or Type 2, if you have diabetes you want to be closely monitored. It’s also possible to see an increase in blood pressure in certain individuals .
If you are taking blood thinner medications or you suffer from bleeding disorders, you may increase the risk of bleeding. Although glucosamine may benefit the health for women, pregnant or nursing women should consult with their physician before taking glucosamine or any other supplement .
Glucosamine can also be used for conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, chronic venous insufficiency, some skin conditions and rheumatold arthritis.
I believe that glucosamine has been beneficial to my own knee problems. One thing I never do is take more then the every day recommended dosage. Please read the label cautiously.
The fact that you can purchase glucosamine supplements online doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t first consult with you’re physician. Always and I repeat always consult with you’re physician before taking any supplement to ensure that you are not harming yourself. Especially if you are currently taking any medications, pregnant, nursing or you have any current health problems.

At 12, I cried over spilled milk.
Now at 44, I cry over spilled nutritional supplement.
I think your plan looks great! You can definitely do 35 minutes or less. Either way, remember finishing it is still huge!
The only thing I'd point out is the strength training. DO you already do 5 times/week? That's a lot of strength training- which is great, but I'd say just don't make any big increase in your strength training while training for the race.
Good luck!
The older I get the more important I find strength training to be in my life. You are right, it isn't just about looking good (although it helps with that too!) I found that although I was thin, I was what you would call “skinny fat”. Strength training has really helped with the aches and pains associated with weak muscles. I was always a healthy eater, but exercise, IMO, is the key.

I went completely off control pills because the progesterone gave me headaches. assuming your IUD is the type that has to be changed every 5 years and has progesterone in it. It can take up to 3-4 months for your body to adjust to the hormone changes. I opted for the IUD that is hormone free. I have not had any headaches since changing to the IUD, but it did take a while for my body to adjust to the hormonal changes. I went thru progesterone withdrawal that included skin changes/acne, hair loss, weight gain. They tell you about those side effects when you go off control.
