    Hi Liam and Katie,

I thought that it might be worthy someone actually writing up what all the major parties are saying about transport issues in Tasmania ahead of the election as well as just putting all their pictures up.
As part of some broader research I've done fot the Tas election, I've tracked down and collated all policy statements relating to transport for each of Labor, Liberals and the Greens.
This morning I've dug up the Greens policy statements which I believe far outstrip Andrew Wilkie's statements on transport and also have a number of specific time-framed policy ideas ready to be enacted:

    • Encourage more environmentally sustainable transport in Tasmania eg inclusion of hybrid vehicles in government fleet, investigate the suitability of biofuels
    • Invest $1.5million in 2010/11 in initial preparations to deliver a Hobart Light Rail Service. Seek federal funding contributions for infrastructure upgrade and rolling stock. Implement a plan for a MetroTasmania operated light rail service by 2013.
    • $8 million Eastern Shore plan to roll out a fleet of four mini-buses that will interlink with the Rosny Interchange and provide flexible transport from the Interchange directly to homes in surrounding suburbs
    • Take advantage of Tasmania’s natural gas supply, particularly as public transport fuel, invest in vehicle conversion and refuelling infrastructure
    • Prepare regional plans that incorporate regional transport and residential needs with the most ecologically sustainable integration of transport modes
    • Encourage shifting freight from road to rail
    • Implement a state-wide commuter, recreational, tourist, local and school walking and cycling plan as a legitimate part of the transport system and ensure it is integrated into transport decision making and planning
    • Improve public transport system, establish vehicle and cycle parking facilities in suburban areas to link with bus routes to metropolitan centres. Introduce creative pricing system to improve user convenience and encourage off peak use.
    • Initiate studies on the viability of an integrated light rail, ferry and bus system in Hobart
    • Ensure the railway system is maintained, full cost attribution for road damage in truck and car rego charging to create a level playing field for rail viability
    • Support Bass Strait ferry
    • Implement strategies to move away from fossil fuel dependence in transport, work with Commonwealth and industry to support conversion to electric, gas, LPG, hydrogen, biofuel or other emerging technologies

I've got similar write-ups for Labor and Liberals (though on my other computer so can't submit it this morning). But I can say that they are not nearly as comprehensive as the Greens, and possibly not even as ambitious as Wilkie's.
Just a quick note though – the Liberals are promising free public transport for all school students, and the Socialist Alliance are calling for free and frequent public transport for everyone.

More coming if you want it.

Ya know, your nutrition stuff works for almost all ages, but what about specific workout and cycling training for women over the age of 60. I'm 67 and own two road bikes and after two years off the bike because of wrist surgery I am finding my body just does not respond like it did when I was 17, plus I have permanent nerve damage in hands and wrists as well as painful arthritis in both thumbs. Hopping on a bike just isn't the same, but I do it even when I hurt. I'd like to get back the ability to do longer rides (up to 50 miles anyway), and could sure use some help as far as strength and hand issues go. Many people my age have painful hands, you know.
