,,I thought you people spoke islamic,,,lol,,we’re startin to speak mexican now, it’s politically correct.
@rebeccalinquist
My question was: why would anyone want to learn the American accent?
@Geeljasjes Here are a few reasons: 1) not to have to repeat when speaking to American audiences; 2) to get promoted while living and working in the US; 3) to improve interviewing skills in the US; 4) when working in a call center in another country and interacting with the US; 5) when working in a global community … hundreds of reasons …those are the 5 I can think of first.
@rebeccalinquist
I can give you 10-reasons why you should adopt a standard English accent.
It’s your imagination running wild and you’re also pretty prejudice and conclusive.
Spanish people don’t have to repeat themselves in Mexico or Argentina and I’m sure they get a job in those countries without having to switch to their accents.
If we start teaching Belgians to speak Dutch like we do, they will tell us to get nicked.
@koolcuttyanoop152
Trust me I sat here laughing my ass off the entire time.
@Geeljasjes there is no universally “correct” way to speak english. There’s different ways of speaking in different regions/countries
silly britfag
@Geeljasjes
For every American accent video, you’ll find at least ten British accent videos. How is American English “improper?” Would a Cockney dialect be “improper” compared to a Bristolian dialect? I don’t think a “proper” language or language style is in existence.
@CrotchLazor
Tell the author of this video that!!!
This video is insane
i nearly gagged :/

Reasons to speak American English over British English: More people on the planet speak American English, also, it is the accent of entertainment, as most widely distributed films are made in the USA. Also haven’t you noticed that when Brits or Aussies make a music recording, they pronounce words like Americans? They do not retain their own accents.
@strawberryseason
That’s a total misconception and typically American to say.
American English is only spoken in North America.
All the other English speaking countries like Australia, NZ, South-Africa, S’pore, and India (over a Billion) speak British.
Wherever you go in Europe people adopt the English accent.
Only people who think it’s cool talk American.
Regarding music, you guys also drop your R sound when you sing.
i find that people trying to teach american accents try to annunciate all of the consinants(sp) to much. but i can understand. for an american to do a brit accent, we just leave out the hard sounds, but american is a lot “rougher” for an english speaker.
@Geeljasjes
The British are the ones who are inferior when it comes to accent.
What can one say about an accent that is heard all over the world (thanks to the Internet, movies and pop music) coming out of a country that has the biggest number of English speakers.
American accent nowadays is much more relevant than the British accent.
British accent is not as widely heard as the American one.
So Brits – now you’re the ones with the funny accent.
DEAL WITH IT.
@Mottahead
Have you travelled much outside your country?
@Geeljasjes Australia, NZ, South Africa, Ireland, Scotland — those places have their own dialects, and they are not the “Queen’s English.” There is no good reason to favor British English over American when so much dialectical variety exists. Also, as I said before, American entertainment is all over the globe thus North American English is heard by probably more people.
@Geeljasjes
P.S. Check out this chorus competition on youtube. They won’t let me link from here. But you can search “Bohemian Rhapsody – Battle of the Choirs Australia Final “. They are Australians singing a song by a British group, Queen. And they are singing it with American accents! Not sure why this happens, but American English seems to be the universal singing accent.
@strawberryseason
Exactly, HEARD, but not SPOKEN.
So Australian, South African and Irish are now dialects.
Can you explain to me the definition of a dialect?
@strawberryseason
I don’t know what you’re hearing, but that’s clearly sung with an Australian accent.
Listen to the word ‘Stop’. It’s pronounced with a short ‘O’ sound, not like the American way, where you stretch it. All the R sounds are silent as well.
We’re still talking “spoken” English here, not “sung”.
There’s a standard for everything. American English is not the standard.
In Holland we speak Dutch, but the Belgians speak standard Dutch, we gladly admit that, why don’t you?
Thanks to this video, now I speak like native americans speak.
@Geeljasjes it’s not difficult. im english and i find it so easy. we say tuna “chew-nar” and americans say it “too-nah”
@Geeljasjes
My Russian accent holding my corporate carrier back. It’s hard to make a serious carrier advance without expressing your ideas clearly. I know first hand that foreign accents are cute only in personal life, at work it’s an unwelcome invitation to serious of personal questions anywhere from “what brought you here” to ” are you going back?”
Thanx rebecca, Im from South Africa busy studying Drama so this really helps
I gave Sanctuary a try. I liked it pretty well when Magnus or her daughter were not on screen. Sorry! Amanda's accent is so strange, I kept focusing on how it wandered in each sentence. Also her character is very melodramatic and earnest; to me she just sucks the life out of her scenes. The daughter is annoying. Kavan Smith's scenes were like a breath of fresh air, and Christopher Heyerdahl did a great job. The effects were great. I'll watch a bit more, in hopes that Amanda got some accent training and knocked some of the uber-sincerity off her character.

Although I do like the concept, I really just want Kalona to kill them all.
